Medion PC bought from Amazon 2 years ago. Windows 7 Home Premium.
Was set up for auto update at 3am (the MS default) but has never been
left on overnight, so never received any updates!
Tried to update today. Fails with error 80070246. Tried several times
- either fails within about a minute, or can take about 2 hours.
Tried Control Panel | Troubleshooting Sytem & Security | fix problems
with Windows Update - this ran to completion, did not report any
corrections made, and afterwards the update fails in the same way.
Tried Windows hotfix KB947821 "System Update Readiness Tool" - again, no
reports of it doing anything, and no better afterwards.
Stopped the update service and looked at:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution/DataStore
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution/Download
Some files in both these folders. Nothing readable. As generally
recommended, deleted the contents of both these folders.
Restarted the update service.
Update now fails with same error in under a minute. It does write some
files into C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution/DataStore ...
Googling hasn't suggested anything else ...
Any ideas, please?
TIA
