Hello all
Can anyone help ?
I am trying to install MS-DOS 6 with CD support into a VMWare virtual
machine.
I have a set of MS-DOS 6 images to create a vm but they do not have CD
access.
I cannot copy from the host or USB stick and naturally have no net
access from MS-DOS.
I have looked on the web but the only copies that appear to do what I
want are full of malware.

Get a copy of WinXP, put that in your VM, and use the command prompt.

You do have a floppy drive emulated via VMWare.

The bottom of
http://www.hiren.info/downloads/dos-files

has vide-cdd.sys which I think should work.

Also have a look at http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

These are known popular sites that are unlikely to be malware infested,
but I hear your concern.

Why?

Perhaps there's a good reason ...

If so, do you want an old real machine that might work? I'm throwing
some out but there are still a few left ... Currently they have XP Pro.

ISTR that this just needed a simple file added to DOS, and an entry in
AUTOEXEC.BAT.

If you put mscdex.exe onto a virtual floppy can you not then attach that
image to the VM, just as you would at one time have taken out the boot
disk and put in the other one? Or, come to that, attach it to the VM as
a second diskette drive, B:

I know you can create floppy images directly (i.e. without a physical
drive) in Linux; presumably Windows (if that's what you're using) can do
it too.

Can't you just mount a native folder as a drive on the DOS machine?
